What we're working on now
IPAC is currently looking to encourage research on governance dialogue in the Canadian context and has issued a call for papers in conjunction with our annual conference for 2006 in Prince Edward Island:
Call for Papers
IPAC Annual Conference, Charlottetown, PEI (August 28-30, 2006)
"Public Service in Search of Democracy"
IPAC Annual Conference, Charlottetown, PEI (August 28-30, 2006)
"Public Service in Search of Democracy"
Canadian democracy is changing, and public servants are finding themselves accountable to consistently more demanding standards of transparency and accountability. This trend is having an impact on Canada’s public service and on its democratic fabric and questions are being asked:
Ø What shape is democracy assuming in Canada?
Ø How can the right balance be struck between competing voices in an ever-shifting dynamic?
Ø What can be learned from experience within Canada and around the world? How have public servants responded to the new demands? What are the theoretical implications of this new order?
Ø How will the work of public servants change in the new environment?
Academics, practitioners and consultants are invited to submit papers for this conference. Proposals on general themes in public administration will be enthusiastically considered, but work that will examine the theme of the conference by focusing on both the organizational/managerial dilemmas of “the new democracy” and policy development will be especially welcomed.
Proposals for papers (500 words) should be sent before November 15, 2005. Deadline for completed papers is March 31, 2006 to:
